Hahaha, Rich Schefren is asking the Internet Marketing community to sign a Petition To Stop Deceptive and Annoying Marketing and Clean Up Marketing and Advertising.
Recently Rich Schefren launched his Doctrine 2 Report, maybe you have read it because there was a great buzz about it. To tell you the truth it is full of good information and strategies that you can implement in your business.
It is all about how getting attention can help you to grow and expand your business, what is really true.
But going back to his petition, I have to say that this is a smart strategy that Rich is using to get more attention and be at the center of the whole Internet marketing community.
He says that the “Old-School†Marketer is the responsible of all the hype that is hanging around online.
Then, you have to sign and agree to do the following:
1. Never open those brain-dead e-mails which promise to make you millionaire in a very short period of time.
2. Click the exit “x” as soon as possible if by accident you land on one of those sales pages full of crap and hype.
3. Tell the whole world using blogs about this person if he insists on continuing trying to full and trick people.Â
Well, I agree with the fact that the Internet marketing world is full of hype, crap and unethical people trying to make money selling the first product they find out there.
But dear Rich, this is not the right way to stop this, people can sign your petition and then WHAT?
Most of those that you are calling “Old-School” Marketers are “New-School” Marketers, they know very well what they are doing, they learn and apply persuasion strategies to make people buy from them even if the product is garbage.
They JV among them and spread the word all over the Internet about the new and only product that you MUST buy this year to solve your problem.
You know very well some of these people that you want to put out of the game now.
Come on Rich, it is fair that someone who teaches how to stay focused, be more productive and efficient promotes Joel Comm’s “The Next Internet Millionaire” reality show that’s a complete waste of time?
Is it fair that someone that delivers high quality products tells me: “Do you get enough visitors? Carlos and Lupe Garcia run over 5 MILLION dollars PER MONTH through their merchant accounts, check them out”? Instead you should check out my review about this product here http://pvreymond.com/stair/?p=15.
In conclusion, everybody loves money, most people are risking their reputation endorsing products that they have never reviewed or personally tested just to make a few dollars, yes even those that are self proclaimed honest.
I CAN’T accept this.
Unfortunately this is the way Internet marketing works and will continue to work for a while but not forever.
There are other ways to stop this and I am working on that.
If you demonstrate me that you are not going to use anymore Affiliate links to promote other people’s products and make extra money, then, and only then I can start to consider to believe you.
Please dear reader, feel free to say your truth here, I’ll really appreciate it.
Thanks and have a great weekend!
PV Reymond
P.S. I have nothing against Rich Schefren, he really delivers what he promises, he is the person that delivers more Free high quality stuff all over the Internet, but I don’t believe in this kind of “Petitions” and the way they are presented.
P.P.S. I know, I know, I’ll have a very hard time to find JV partners among those self proclaimed “Gurus”, I already have it. You know what? Who cares. I’ll continue working underground only with honest people.

I haven’t read the article but I can relate to P V’s review. As a newbie I have found it most frustrating sorting out what to do just to get started. I am semi retired and love the internet. I also like having some money but can’t figure how making money on the net can be easier than offline. Essentially the only difference is in the cost. After that you have to learn and experiment, accepting that a high proportion of the stuff you respond to is going to be crap! But it is still part of the learning curve and an essential element in getting started. For me affiliate marketing offers a starting point where a lot will be learned not necessarily earned. And that’s OK because offline is exactly the same. The main difference is that hype is far easier generated on the net than offline and the costs are totally different. But alongside that the same ratio of start-ups to failure occur. (not a good word because I truly believe in the immortal words of Edison that failure presents another way that something doesn’t work) The time worn cliche’s “if I can do it you can” and I was in debt, no food no shelter blah, blah ,blah have been used offline for years. The internet is a business and has to be treated as such. You have to do the hard yards, waste some money, learn and focus. As I said I am in the learning phase, have a certain amount of money I’m prepared to invest and lose, but above all else must stay focused with an eye on the main chance. And it will come. As for petitions, I say get over it. Everything has a way of self regulating and this sort of action is only a distraction. All the information required is right at our finger tips. Make your own assessments and stay focused. At 65 and a newbie if I can ………..! There I’ve broken my own rule but we all have the power over our choices.

Very interesting article.
First I had better declare my self interest
1 – I am a client of Rich Schefren as I signed up the his Business Growth System in March 2007. I rate Rich and his thinking very highly.
2 – I am an affiliate who has been promoting Rich, The Attention Age Doctrine and the Business Acceleration program on The Business Coaching Blog.
3 – I admire Rich for the high quality, free resources that he has published.
I also thought that he was running a really clever campaign creating attention for himself and his new product but when the petition appeared on his blog, I couldn’t bring myself to sign it.
Not because I believe in hype and over promotion. In fact if you click over to The Business Coaching Blog you will see that I try to bring you a very fair assessment of the Business Development Superstars of whom, Rich Schefren is one together with a wide range of other sources of business advice.
But any business advice is only of use if people use it.
I do worry about the amount of product that is pushed out into the market with big claims of great success, all backed by credible testimonials but far too much is bought and then ignored.
I blogged about this yesterday in “Are You A Business Advice Junkie?
http://businesscoaching.typepad.com/the_business_coaching_blo/2007/12/are-you-a-busin.html
Now I make my money by providing business advice face to face and over the telephone and selling it via my website and blog but I don’t want people to buy things that won’t give them good value for money over the short or long term.
It’s not right that the rich get richer while the poor, struggling bricks and mortar or internet entrepreneur dishes out the cash for little benefit.
Most of the time this is not the fault of the top gurus although their sales copy is of the highest standard and extremely persuasive. Often the fault lies with the individual buyer who is too eager to look for the next get rich quick scheme without properly implementing the last.
I agree that this type of petition doesn’t do any good anyway but I also feel that Rich has allowed the hype to build too much with specifying exactly what the Business Acceleration Program is and without making it clear what the price is and I have commented to that extent on his blog and mine.
